Glenlake’s final minor hockey stage, offering elite, competitive, and community pathways for players developing at the highest level or playing for the love of the game.

The U18 division is the final stage of minor hockey. It is designed for players pursuing elite junior or collegiate opportunities as well as those playing for the love of the game and “Hockey for Life.” This is the “Training to Win” stage, with a strong focus on advanced team systems, tactical execution, and leadership.

Program details

  • Players are provided 2 preseason skate sessions.  Sessions will be assigned and communicated in August and cannot be changed. These are optional skates.
  • Players choose their preferred stream (Body Contact or Non-Body Contact) during registration — this cannot be changes once evaluation begin
  • Players will participate in the Glenlake evaluation process which will begin once the elite tryout process has concluded
  • Players will be evaluated in their declared position – forward, defense or goalie.

Elite Stream Tryouts (U13, U15, U18)

Players in U13, U15, and U18 divisions who wish to try out for AA or AAA Elite Stream teams must follow the steps below:

  1. Pre-register with Glenlake
  2. Register with the Calgary Royals – Registration must be completed separately through their website.


Should your U13/U15/U18 player be returned to Glenlake and they have not been pre-registered with Glenlake, they will not be guaranteed a space and should a space be available a late registration fee of $250 will be applied.

Evaluations & Team Formation

  • Evaluations usually begin after the Elite release date.
  • Players must attend all assigned sessions (typically 4–5).
  • Players are evaluated in their designated position (forward, defense, or goalie) and chosen contact stream (BC or NBC). Stream choice cannot be changed once evaluations begin.
  • Teams are tiered based on evaluation performance (BC 1–3 and NBC 1–5).

Practice Schedule

  • Practices vary week to week, typically 1.5–3 sessions per week.
  • Weekday practices can start as early as 5:30 pm and as late as 9:45 pm.
  • Weekend practices are usually in the early afternoon or evening.
  • Ice curfew is 11:00 pm.
  • Full ice is prioritized when possible; U18 and U15 take precedence.

Games & Tournaments

  • Games are scheduled “one for one” (one weekday + one weekend game).
  • Higher tiers commonly use a three-official system.
  • Glenlake U18 teams play city-wide.
  • Tournaments are arranged at the team level.

Team Cash Calls

Teams may request a cash call (typically $200–$350 to a maximum of $500 per player) at the beginning of the season to cover additional expenses such as tournaments, dryland training, team apparel, and equipment.
