U15

A key development stage with competitive pathways, stronger team play, and options for both Body Contact and Non-Body Contact hockey.

The U15 division represents a significant step in a player’s development, transitioning into the “Training to Compete” stage. While skill development remains a priority, there is increased focus on team systems, tactics, physical conditioning, and the choice between Body Contact (BC) and Non-Body Contact (NBC) streams.

Program details

  • Players are provided 2 preseason skate sessions. Sessions will be assigned and communicated in August and Cannot be changed.  These are optional skates.
  • Players choose their preferred stream (Body Contact or Non-Body Contact) during registration — this choice is binding and cannot be changed after evaluations begin.
  • All first-year U15 players must complete mandatory Body Contact Clinics (2 ice sessions), regardless of stream choice. Exemptions apply for players who attended Glenlake spring clinics, elite tryouts, or goalies.
  • Players will be evaluated in their designated position: goalie, forward and defense

Elite Stream Tryouts (U13, U15, U18)

Players in U13, U15, and U18 divisions who wish to try out for AA or AAA Elite Stream teams must follow the steps below:

  1. Pre-register with Glenlake
  2. Register with the Calgary Royals – Registration must be completed separately through their website.

Should your U13/U15/U18 player be returned to Glenlake and they have not been pre-registered with Glenlake, they will not be guaranteed a space and should a space be available a late registration fee of $250 will be applied.

Evaluations & Team Formation

  • Evaluations begin after elite (AA/AAA) tryout releases.
  • Players must attend all assigned evaluation sessions (typically 4–5).
  • Players are evaluated in their chosen position (forward, defense, or goalie) and declared contact stream.
  • Friend requests cannot be accommodated due to tiered placement.
  • Teams are formed based on evaluation performance and Hockey Calgary tiering guidelines.

Practice Schedule

  • Practices vary week to week, typically 1.5–3 sessions per week.
  • Weekday practices can start as early as 5:00 pm and as late as 9:00 pm.
  • Weekend practices are usually in the early afternoon or evening.
  • Ice curfew is 10:15 pm.
  • Full ice is prioritized when possible; teams may share ice when necessary.

Games & Tournaments

  • Games are scheduled “one for one” (one weekday + one weekend game).
  • Higher tiers use a three-official system where possible.
  • Glenlake U15 teams play city-wide.
  • Tournaments are arranged at the team level.

Team Cash Calls

Teams may request a cash call (typically $200–$350, up to a maximum of $500 per player) to cover additional expenses such as tournaments, dryland training, team apparel, and social events. Families facing affordability issues should speak confidentially with the coach or team manager.

Body Contact (Mandatory Clinic)

ALL first year players to U15 players are REQUIRED to complete a body contact clinic regardless of whether they plan to play contact or non-contact.  Those players who registered and completed the Glenlake spring body contacts clinics or the Calgary Royals body checking clinics as part of the Calgary Royals try out process are not required to attend the Glenlake body checking clinics but may do so if they wish, registration is required.

Registration is required and attendance is required at both ice times.  Failure to attend a clinic or miss an ice time in your scheduled clinic will result in your player not being permitted onto the ice for evaluations.  Goalies are not required to take these clinics.

Registration for these U15 body checking clinics will open later to be determined, please watch our website and your email for more information as it becomes available.
